I want to start by saying that the lowlife SOB'S at Capitol One are a bunch of theives. Myself and a close family friend had the unpleasent oppertunity to deal with these uneducated fools for over a year.It started when my mother had a Capitol One card, she had this card for quite a while and was never late on any payments. She fell for the scam that they offered for their "Payment Protection", which is supposed to make regular payments in the event that you are disabled.
Unfortunatly, mom started getting sick. In order to keep making house payments, utility payments, and other financial obligations, she kept her job as long as she could, up until the point where she could no longer walk on her own and the doctors said she was disabled. At this time we sent the paperwork that Capitol One claimed that they needed.
The contract says that you must continue to make payments until Capitol One steps in on their plan. A close family friend quit his job to take care of moms daily needs and trips to the doctors which was 200 miles away. The doctors finally came up with a diagnosis of ovarian cancer that had spread to several organs in her body and her brain which did alot of damage.
For 8 months after mom quit working, we kept making payments on all of her accounts, including her Capitol One credit card. 8 months had gone by with several conversations with these bastards. At this point there was no more money to pay Capitol One. so we were forced to stop paying on that account.
At this point the people there were more than happy to send a letter saying that since we had missed a payment we had breached the contract for their Payment protection plan, and therefore they were no longer responsible.
Over the next 8 months, I spent well over 100 hours on the phone, constantly getting transfered back and forth and eventually hung up on. They hired 3 differant lawyers. Each time I received letters from these lawyers I would have to explain the situation to them for a couple of months. The first lawyers firm steped away from the case, as well as the 2nd. After 8 months the 3rd lawyer called and told me they had no case and they were going to drop it.
Mom spent 8 months paying on this account when she had no money coming in, and eventually went to a nursing home. Capitol One had an obligation to pay this and backed out. This was a drop in the ocean for Capitol One, but made this part all of our lives a nightmare. If I could find any one of these *** from Capitol One,I would rip their arms off and beat them with their bloody stumps.
It is unbelievable that a company that size can spend so much time and money trying to rip off a dying woman, all for $1500.00

1. Written by intelligent, on 29-10-2009 10:08 It is really sad to read this knowing there are very few people who understand common sence!!! like with ANY insurance..car-house-self again ANY insurance..there will be terms, comditions, and exclusions. If you are paying insurance, you need to know what it covers, and what situations you will qualify for. NOBODY IS TRYING TO RIP YOU OFF. For starters you need to know that Stonebridge Benefit Services, and Capital one are 2 different companies. Capital one is not educated on the stipulations of payment protection.. so if you have any questions call payment protection, not Capital one. Two, YOU NEED TO CALL IMEEDIATELY WHEN YOU ARE OUT OF WORK OR DEEMED DISABLED. And to the lady whoes son had the payment protection...release him off the nipple please. He is 24 years old and he should know the terms of the protection he had. And everyone should also know the payment protection sends a letter once a year reminding people of their service and what it covers... it is not their fault you chose not to read it. If you pay for car insurance for 5 years, and you run over a dog, and that is not covered. are they going to give you a full refund?? NO!! IDIOTS!!!
2. Written by Brenda Wittenauer, on 14-10-2009 13:52 I too had/have a similar problem with those rip-off artists at capital one.......... we are going to court this month over it! I paid "payment protection" for years, when I needed it, they made it impossible to collect!

4. Written by Cap One rip off, on 11-10-2009 23:40 Well, I guess we can't totally blame CAP ONE or their employees because I'm sure that the regular employees of CAP ONE aren't the ones who contracted with STONEBRIDGE. I also used their service and they paid for it for 6 months until I called and talked to this lady who cancelled my payment protection because I went back to work for a week. Hello!!!!!!!!! I was called back to work for one week. If I refused I would have lost my unemployment. IF YOU ARE COLLECTING AND YOU ARE CALLED BACK TO WORK------DO NOT INFORM THE STUPID PEOPLE AT STONEBRIDGE. And if that is really a cap one rep writing on this forum, stop acting like an idiot. You are supposed to be representing the company you work for. If you were laid off from CAP ONE and had to deal with what we are dealing with I bet you'd be singing a different tune. I actually like Capital One, it's Stonebridge that I don't like. Hey they paid for me for a while, I cancelled it. I AM TREATED MUCH BETTER BY CHASE. NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER with CHase's payment protection plan. SO simple. Just don't understand why Stonebridge / Cap One isn't that easy. What's in your wallet? Hmmmmm

6. Written by Concerned Citz, on 28-09-2009 21:02 If there is something you do not understand about payment protection call CAP ONE before you need and read all the details of your contract. There are many benifits to the program. Yes you have to full time to be able to collect for the unemployment protection. It is extra security and it will ease the load if you ever do need it in the futre. Please do not wait until the last minute before you sumit a claim. If you have any questions call CAP ONE for more info. Plus you still get to use your plastic will CAP ONE makes your payments. The time that really would need the extra money. So sorry for the ones with the problems collecting. Maybe you should contact a pro-bono lawyer and see what can be done. If you really did have this protection she should have gotten her balance paid off.
7. Written by I think it's time for a class , on 24-09-2009 23:34 First I'd like to congratulate the apparent Capital One employee above for making an *** out of himself & showing us all what types of people they really employ. I too have been decieved not only by Capital One but by other's as well. I thought I was being a smart consumer in signing up for the credit protection plans on each of my credit cards. Have been paying for this "protection" for 3 years and now that I have lost my job and need to use this service that I have paid for on a monthly basis, they tell me that I do not qualify for the benefits because I am considered self employed due to the fact that my company did not take out taxes and I get a 1099 at the end of the year, which means I do not qualify for unemployment. I recieved a notice in the mail today from one of my other cards telling me that My claim has been approved and they will make payments on my acct for 6 months, however I have to resend the paperwork every 30 days and the form they sent today for my next review requires a Physician Statement as to whether I am physically able to work?? and has to be signed by a physician...WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE??? 1st of all If I could afford to spend $100 for an office visit to have this paper signed I could just pay the *** payment. They are all ripoffs.
8. Written by Worked for me, on 23-09-2009 13:51 Capital One payment protection actually worked fine for me. So, I can't complain. I feel bad for you guys who it didn't work out well for, but they actually made my payments when I became unemployed and it was a lifesaver, saved me $40 - $50 a month, which is a lot when you are unemployed and it helps keep my credit rating high.
9. Written by Sam, on 09-09-2009 19:56 Our son got his credit card (Capital One) when he was 18, but was told he had to get the payment protection to be approved. He's only had a part time job and they knew it when he was applying for the card. At first he had a $200 credit limit, then it was upped to $400. Now it's $3,000. Of course, the amounts on his early low purchases were only 90 cents on each $100. Eventually they were up to $27 each month. He's now 24 and after paying all these payment protection charges for 6 years, we finally found out that since he was part time, his Captital One payments would not covered if he were to lose his job. We've since cancelled the payment protection plan. We never received any information about the payment protection plan and the fact that he wouldn't be covered as a part time worker. We'd like a total refund including interest charges of all the money paid for this plan.

Oh yeah, a little punctuation would help your comment look like you weren't wearing that "special helmet" yourself. Perhaps someday you'll be faced with a difficult situation in which you would appreciate some help and compassion rather than a bunch of insults that you mistakenly thought would make you appear "smart". |
