Capital One Credit Card

What a joke! My wife called to cancel her Capital One credit card over the weekend and was told she had to call back at another number the following Monday. Amazing, since Capital One charges $29.95 a year in membership fees, boasting that the fee helps cover their wonderful 24/7 customer service - unless the nature of customer service is not something they want to provide! I told my wife to request a refund of her last membership fee - as the service provided is truly misleading. No wonder the credit card industry is under scrutiny all the time. They should never be self-regulated

Only narrow-minded idiots pay an annual credit card fee. The best credit cards in the world have a $0 annual fee. You and your wife really need to take a course or two in financing and or business.

Guest

Why did your loser wife cancel her credit card. You sound like a loser too.

Get a life and start paying your bills so we don't have to in membership fees. :grin

24/7 customer service tried calling them at 1241 am and there office is closed

Liars, thieves and crooks

My husband has a acct with capital one. In the last 3 yrs he has lost 2 jobs and had 2 heartaches resulting in a qwintuple (5)by-pass.

I am working 3 jobs trying to make end meet while he is recovering. I am of course behind on everything. His auto loan is almost paid off. Principle balance 1859 but with late fees 2953.

I contacted them to see if they would work with me regarding the late fees. I was advised that they do NOT ever waive fees unless it is their fault. I understand that but here is someone who needs help and I get a manager who says I Feel Your Pain how about I *** $88. Everything helps I guess.

I am trying to get this paid off so I can get assistance and save my home. I don't have that kind of money, I am borrowing it from my boss. Absolutely no sympathy, courtesy nothing.....of course I haven't pushed the issue of them taking unauthorized payments from my bank acct. I went thru *** trying to get that resolved with them.

I ended up going thru my own bank and disputed them to get my money back. Once this acct is paid off and I have my title I will let them know how I really feel.

That Manager that thinks she feels my pain doesn't know the half of it. But they will.........

make sure you don't have a bank acct at CapOne or any of the banks, by other names, that they owe. Preferably an acct in a locally owned credit union will be much safer. That has got to be a very ripped off feeling to find your bank acct has been raided by a...bank, but if the creditor owns the bank, they're going to get away with it.

Capitol one gap insurance are CROOKS!!

I bought a car in Jan, the next day I try to cancel the gap insurance. 6 months later Im still getting the run around.

$560 for some bullsh insurance that the dealer talked me into. The people at cap one auto act like they are complete *** Good luck canceling the bogus gap insurance !! Gap insurance is a complete rip off, it only protects the finance company, it does nothing for the consumer. Dont buy it and beware of dealers who insist on buying it !!

The dealer trys to tell you that they can get you a better finance rate if you get the gap insurance, which is completely bogus.

Then when you try to cancel (within 30 days there is supposedly no charge) they act like they dont even know you. Bogus !!

My car was financed through capital one my car was recently deemed a total loss. Capital One told me they didn't offer gap insurance, so now I am stuck with a balance for a car i no longer have.

Guest

Actually Gap insurance is for your benefit. If your car is totaled and the insurance company only pays $10,000 but you owe $15,000, the gap will pay that difference.

Without Gap you are still responsible for that balance.

Hope this helps.

Guest

*** i am a woman,And i knew that.Believe me GAP is a GOOD THING.I purchased a BRAND NEW VEHICLE and Guess what happened. In less than 6 MONTHS it was TOTALED OUT,YOU TALKING ABOUT IN SHOCK.I DAM NEAR HAD A HEART ATTACK.My insurance company was 'TIGHT RIGHT"I alway's believe that each and Every person should alway's "Place GOOD FAITH FIRST".First of all these people want to be "PAID"If something happen's to this vehicle.I myself can understand this issue. If i did not have "GAP" WHERE would i be even at this point.Take the PLUNGE."TAKE THE GAP".YOU WILL NOT BE SORRRY.AFTER all it is better to be SAVE than SORRY RIGHT.

Guest

GAP is a scam. The finance companies troll the boards trying to tell everyone GAP is good but it is a SCAM.

Look up horror stories GAP and see GAP does not cover you.

GAP pays less then you pay for the GAP insurance every time. Total Scam.

Guest

Dude,

You need to have better understanding of your actions. Don't be blaming others for not understanding who GAP insurance is through, which as you said was bought at the time from the dealership; hence, dealership product. Besides, GAP insurance is actually in your benefit if you have trouble managing your finances.

Guest

First of all when you by a car and you are not in a good equity position, ex: neg equity it is to your advantage to purchase gap ins w/ the contract to protect you the client and your credit. You see the bank knows that if this car is totaled ins will only pay them for the Value of the car not how much you have financed, they don't care its all about #'s the balance remaining and sometimes it is a large amt, still has to be paid to the bank even though you have no car.

You can't get another car as long as you have an open car loan on your credit, and when you cancel gap it comes off the end of the loan not back to you and will not lower your payment. A bank will sometimes give a little lower rate if you need gap and choose to get it w/ the loan b/c they know they will not have to rely on you for a deficiency bal should the worst happen!

Capital annoyance calls

I have received multiple daily calls to my cell phone for almost a month, supposedly from Capital One. The first call of the day leaves a canned voice mail from "Linda" at Capital One telling me to call an 800 number. I don't have a Capital One account!

They call morning, afternoon, and night, even on weekends. I've gotten up to six calls in one day! On the times I have answered, I've gotten someone who doesn't seem to know what to say and is hard to understand when they do talk. I told them not to call me again, but all that happens is that the call number changes and it starts all over again.

I've checked the number lookup sites, and this happens to a lot of people. Most think it's not Capital One at all, just someone phishing.I tried to contact Capital One, but their site isn't very user friendly. Not only is it annoying, it's wearing out the battery in my cell phone!

Like the site says, "I'm pissed!"

I think Capital One sucks! They should stop outsourcing their employees.

If there wasn't so much corprate greed they could hire people right in the USA.

Nothing more annoying than getting a call from Baboo Patel in Bombay India telling me that I haven't paid my credit card bill.

Note to corprate Capital One, stop giving yourselves ginormous checks, hire AMERICANS..... Just might help out the economy in the process.......

Guest

this is happaning to me and i dont have a capital one acount eathier i hae a bank of america and they have called up to 10 times a day on my cell

Guest

If it's a potential phishing scam, you should call Capital One to let them know (just use the same steps I told you in my last post to bypass entering an account number you don't have and talk to a representative), then you can call your phone's service provider to see if they can help block that number. You should also contact the FTC and let them know about this as well.

Guest

Yes, we get several calls a day supposedly from their legal dept. and they direct us to call a number which is a voice mailbox which tells us to leave our name and acct number (we don't have an account). It probably is phishing and it is very annoying!

Guest

I used to work for a call center representing Capital One. I can tell you that they DO have quite a few problems, but I MAY have a work-around for you.

This is a trick I picked up while representing them that I used to give non-customers who were having problems contacting Capital One for whatever reason:

Call their main Customer Service number (1-80*-***-****). The automated voice will prompt you to say or enter your 16-digit credit card number before you can continue. At this point, just stay on the line--do not say or do anything. You'll have to wait about 30-45 seconds, with a couple more automated prompts asking for your card number.

As long as you just stay on the line, it should eventually bypass the prompt and route you to a living Customer Service person. You should be able to get some help from there (hopefully).

I will also warn you, since you said there seemed to be some sort of language barrier, that the vast majority of general Customer Service employees for Capital One are based in Manila, Philippines. Best of luck, and I hope you get this resolved.

Capital One calls my hous but I don't have any account with them

I have told them the person they're looking for cannot be reached at my phone number but they keep calling. They're looking for my husband's ex-wife! They've been divorced since 1996 so I don't know how they got our number as it's unlisted. I'm filing a complaint with our state's AG office today. Capital One's auto attendant doesn't give you an option to speak to someone if you don't have an account so I'm unable to reach a manager or supervisor. I don't understand why they keep calling.

Capital One Master Card Worse Service

Please consider this before you apply a card from Capital One!!! My suggestion to all the people who are interested in their cards, please consider the following poor services you will receive before you apply. I applied this card back in May and I was approved. Then Canada Post strike happened and I called to inquire if there was contingency plan and if there is anything I should be aware in this situation. It took me close to an hour waiting and talking on the phone with their agents. Unfortunately, their supervisor told me that there was no contingency plan for this situation. This really surprised me; an international company does not even have a plan in the event of postal strike. Anyways, I thought maybe due to the postal strike, that's why I had to wait very long on the phone. But it still surprised me with the lack of plan to handle a postal strike. I encountered this problem again when I called to change my mailing address and inquire the status of my card and when I will be receiving it. While waiting for almost half hour on the phone, I found out something that REALLY upset me. Capital One had sent me a billing statement when I do not even have the card. Based on the approval letter, it clearly indicated that the $120 fee is "applied within 45 days of receiving your new credit card..." First, if I did not even receive my card, why there is a statement already send out? Second, if I did not call, I probably won't even know about this statement and it probably will affect my credit score and my card's interest rate. I explain to my situation to a supervisor and hoping that she could do something about this. She refused me firmly that she cannot do anything about it and it is not in Capital One's control for the postal strike. It makes one wonder what about other post delivery services like Fedex or UPS or Purolator that they could consider in this postal strike situation. Before ending the conversation, I suggested few services related improvements to this supervisor and hope that she can take to her management, so in the future, less customers will have to deal with all the things I had dealt. Her whole attitude was like she doesn't give any *** with any of my suggestion. If a service provider don't even want to take customer suggestion or even improve, how do you expect them to helpful in the future if they are unable to do the most basic customer service? I hate long wait on the phone call and it makes wonder about the future when I do use the card. For example, if I need travel emergency assistant while overseas, I may have to pay huge amount of money calling Capital One for help. Probably I won't even get help I needed because they do not put your interests as the priority. So, I urge everyone who is considering Capital One card to THINK TWICE before you apply. I hope based on my personal story, it had show you the potential horrible services you will be receiving.

Do you expect them to magically send the items to you or call every customer in Canada? You knew you applied and you knew there was a strike. Take some responsibility for your own actions

Capital One Direct Banking

I never had a problem with my capital one credit card. So I thought I would try there other banking services. I have just gotten married, so I tried opening a joint account. It asked me questions that where not relevant to me. So it denied me, I asked the gentleman should I be worried, he told me no and try again. I tried again and nothing. They finally told me that I have had fraudulent accounts and that I have done fraudulent activities, and that in now way will I get an account with them. OK fine I want to see what they are talking about. They had me worried that someone had stolen my identity that I pulled all my credit reports, including the reports they use ChexSystems. I got the ChexSystem Report in the mail and there was absolutely nothing on it, just all the inquiries made by capital one, and my credit reports where the same nothing out of the ordinary. The day after that I got a letter saying welcome to capital one banking. Enclosed are these deposit slips to add money to my new account. I called them up are you joking, they deem me fraudulent, then they wanted me to deposit money. They sent me the letter in error. I asked to speak to someone else, but they told me there was nothing else they could do. I wanted there complaint department no way I wanted there services anymore. Please if you going to accuse someone of being fraudulent and doing fraudulent activities have something to back it up. Well he told me the chex system report is telling us this. Umm hello I have the report in my hand are you guys idiots and can't read it yourselves, there is absolutely nothing on it.

Capitol One ignores federal law

I have a credit card with Capitol One. Last year, they offered to loan me %7,000 at 5.99% interest until the balance is paid off. As long as I was never late on a payment, the interest rate was to remain the same. This month I received my bill from them when they announced that my interest rate was now 16%. The Credit Card Act of 2009 states that a bank HAS to inform you in writing that they are raising your interest rate and give you the option of not using the card again and being able to pay the balance off a the old interest rate. I called Capitol One and they told me that they did not have to follow the Act and I had to pay the higher interest rate irregardless of what they had said when I first accepted their 5.99% offer. I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission who agreed that the law is on my side. I assure you that Capitol One has lost my future business.

Who cares about the spelling, except you.

So why don't you inform us as to what the card act is.

I have had personal dealings with Capitol One and yes they believe that they are exempt from federal and state banking laws; When was the first or last time that you got a letter from them that actually had a signature block of a real person? They do their general generic letters with no signature blocks for a reason!!

Guest

You misspelled Capital One. "Irregardless"is not really a word.

And... the Card act is something you don't understand...

Capitol One freezing account without cause

I opened up a checking account with Capitol One bank. My payroll deposit goes directly there.

I recently sold my home and the proceeds also went into that account the next day. Since my house was sold I no longer live there (a concept Capitol One does not understand) I called into customer service to change the address on my account. All seemed fine with the representative. The VERY NEXT DAY, Capitol One frooze my checking account, returning checks, bouncing payments associated with the closing, with my move and with my settling into my new location.

Locked up ALL my money. I found out 4 days later when a small business called about my returned check. Calling Capitol One I found they had returned every online payment and check I had made, they could not tell me what they returned and on all the returned checks they marked Account Closed. This was supposedly Fraudulent Activity caused by my changing the address.

Now, 2 weeks later my address is still not changed, and when I call customer service they say sure, we will change your address just give us the information. When I ask what is different from the last time, they don't know so I won't change the address because I do not want them to freeze my account again. Seems I can never change the address on my account, possibly ever. What kind of lousy business practice is this?!?!

I am closing my account with them immediately.

Angela D'amico

I feel she should be fired. She is rude she is mean to all customers.

And she is bad for the capital one bank. She works in the commack branch in new york. Her name is Angela D'amico and she should be let go. I went into the store she treated me poorly.

And i will never do business with capital one bank ever again. If she is fired then maybe I will concider coming back to the commack branch. No customer should be treated like that.

And she needs to be punished accordingly. Thank you and have a nice day.

If paid in full on due date, we are charged late fee

I have used a credit card from Capital One for 5 years.

This month, I had weird experience with them.

I paid in full on due date, but next day I was charged past-due fee and interest. I can't understand how they can do like this.

They are a big company, but have poor computer system.

I have a proof of my payment on due date. But they just ignore me.

They just repeat the recorded message: "To avoid interest charges, you need to pay your statement ending balance in full each month before the statement closing date."

Of course, I did!! I paid in full on due date!!

I don't understand why I should invest my money for their poor system.

It is better to throw away my money!

What can I do to correct this issue?

I think this kind of cheating company should stop their business.

You obviously do not know how banking works. Just because you submit a transaction to a bank on the due date does not mean that's when the payment will start processing. It may not start processing at your bank until the next business day and then it could take 2-3 business days for it to be transferred.

Guest

I just got late fee and interest charges two consecutive months but it was Capital One fault for processing the payment! Capital One credit the late fee of $25 but not the interset charges.

I have physical mail letter and proof and request my money back!?

I have file this to FTC and consumer but I will file again! "What is in my wallet?" your dam hand stealing my money!

Guest

happened to me 2 days ago. i called them up and told them that i was going to file a complaint to the FTC. they reimbursed the late fee.

Guest

sorry forgot to mention a few things: i had been a good standing customer so claimed all their letters to me stated and always paid in full prior to due date guess they don\'t like people who pay in full cause they then can\'t make any money on us!! good luck with them dalton but my suggestion find another credit card!!

Guest

i too had capital one and always paid full amount when due.....a couple of times they claim they never got the check in the mail.....hmmmm now how did that happen? they seemed to have gotten it any other time and the month before they got it and the month after the " missing check" they got it.....i finally caught onto to them when it happened twice and closed my account with them!! of course after making sure they had gotten the check in the mail!!

Guest

I paid on due date at 5 pm EST. The headquater is located on Salt Lake City, Utah.

So, this is not the case. Thanks for your comment.

Bank eat my money "capital one"

I made a cash deposit in the atm machine and it malfuctioned, the machine did not issue me a receipt or credit to my account,The manager told me that they have no records of the deposit, and after checking machine found no extra money. I was advised to file a claim, three days later they issued me a temporary credit while investigating the claim. All atm machines should have cameras that security can view to verify that I made a cash deposit. I have been depositing cash in this atm machine for 3 years and never had a problem. "NEVER AGAIN"

Happened in Manassas, VA same thing, inserted bills. It couldn't read them all together so I did them all in smaller stacks, amount came up looking ok.

Clicked "continue" gives some transaction error and that it has to be cancelled. Hopefully they'll look at the footage and find the extra money in the machine.

I won't be doing cash again at the ATM. Buyer beware using this service...

Guest

I deposited 475$ into the ATM, i also have been doing this for years, it didnt give me a receipt and didnt go into my account, all i know is i better be getting my money back asap! :(

Guest

Just happened to me in Ashburn. ATM stole $100. Staffs tells me I'll need to wait until Friday to see what they can do...

Guest

I had the same problem yesterday! It was a large deposit, too.

They told me they are aware of the problem and it's happened to other people, and they thought they knew what was wrong. They told me the money would be in my account by today.

It most certainly is not. Now I have to file a claim.

I am switching banks, and from now on I will only be making deposits indoors, with the bank tellers.

Capital One Will Not Close My Account

I have applied for a reconsolidation loan, paying off my Capital-One account is part of it. But I must provide "An Account Close Out Statement." I have messaged, chatted, called customer service, begged supervisors...and they promise to fax the doc right away. All I get is the same email over and over saying I must pay the acct.in full to close it. After they tell me they will close it. My reconsolidation loan cannot progress without it. They are like talking to a wall. Their chat is worthless, it seems like they are all rebots without common sense or authority to do anything.

I can't believe this ***. I paid off my card in its entirety back in April, then I called in to close the account, much to the dismay of my customer service representative "Steve." Let's just say, Steve didn't close my account, even though I had obviously paid it off for that purpose. After all, I'm a 31 year-old college student, and I don't need any more debt or bad credit hanging over my head...

THEN, in July, I get a notice that my "statement is ready," stocked full of interest charges and late fees, and even a fraudulent purchase. So, once again, I called back. I solved the fraud paperwork, even got the confirmation in the mail, and I thought it was all over.

THEN tonight, I get another email telling me that my "statement is ready," and I thought to myself, "OH *** JOY!"

HERE WE GO AGAIN FOLKS.

I'm talking class action with my lawyer tomorrow.

Guest

For a month now I have been trying to close mine and my wife's account. I continually get disconnected and tranfered to people who can't help.

I am sick of the indian people they connect me with who don't even understand what I am even saying. Worst company ever!!

Guest

They did this to me, as I posted in several other listings here, after all the fraud they did to me they refused to close my account even though they claimed someone had access to my account number and made a charge. I was unable to suspend the account, change the account number or close the account until the balance was paid in full, including the fraudulent charges and late fees upon those charges . Add this to the list of things this company does to its customers.

DONT USE CAPITOL ONE

I had an $800 balance on my card I never received a statement from them so I called at the first of every month it stated the minimum payment amount and when it was due. For 18 months I paid the minimum amount due plus $20.

In January I called and the payment due was almost $400. I freaked out and listened to the transaction history. They had been charging me an over balance fee of $40 a month for 18 months plus a fee for not making enough of a payment. The minimum amount due each month wasnt even covering the fees they were charging me!

I couldnt afford the new minimum due of $400 and my balance on the card was now $1200. The not so helpful women on the phone said if I didn't make a payment for 6 months it would go to collections. It never did so for another year I was charge another $80 a month. I did a debt consolidation in May of this year and included this debt even thought I dont feel its fair that more than half the balance is fees.

Capital One is gladly accepting those payments and has also garnished my bank accounts. After my arrangement with the debt consolidators Capitol One transferred my account to an attorney, they have garnished all of my savings and checking accounts and my balance due is now $2700.

Now matter what I do I cant get rid of this balance and these fees. This is a typical big bank screwing the little guy.

Crazy thing in this day of technology! You can pay your bills over the phone and online!!

You should try it sometime saves you lots of time and money not to write a check put it in an envelope pay the post office for a stamp and then mail it. It costs you an average of $0.61 to pay one bill that way.

Not to mention all the trees that were cut down to make your envelope and the fuel used to deliver the mail. :x

How were you making your payments? You would have been notified.

Something is missing in your story. Come on now.
