Consumer Opinion
To all complainants: We are all aware of the deviant business practices of Capital One; CapitalOne even refuses to identify their home offices and contact numbers, further shielding themselves from complaints and scrutiny. Warning: Under no circumstances provide your full ssn to anyone in India for charge card/auto loan inquiries! When inquiring, you'll be told your loan number doesn't come up; they are stealing id's. Only provide last four digits st most. I urge everyone to file their complaint with us Atty General at U.S. Department of Justice, 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, nw, Washington, DC 20530. http://www.justice.gov/ Enough complaints will initiate a federal investigation. Also check your state's banking laws, they're strict!

A promised credit on the month that the purchase of airline tickets which were charged on December 14th and I was informed at the time of the purchase that a credit would appear immediately for the redeemed Rewards that I had saved for this purchase. The December came out last entry made on November 30th which did not show the credit promised ($709.90). After dealing with a number of assistences in the Phillipines that work for your company--they said they could not make the adjustment on this statement. A hardship is placed on me and I refuse to leave a balance that will be subjected to interest because of this.

Paid off credit card but get a "Membership" Fee from Capital One...
Capital One is a scam. I have a card through Capital One that I dont use and has been paid off for sometime. I noticed in Dec that I had been charged a "Membership" Fee of $29 back in Sept. The card went 60 days diliquent before I noticed I had these "Membership" fees... needless to say I was hit with a 30 day diliquent to my credit and late fees for something I didn't even do... I called Capital One they said to call back once the account payment cleared and talk to them about getting the membership fee waived going forward but I'm stuck with a 30 day diliquent on my credit... This is ridiculous...

Cap One Payment Protection
I was laid off 8 months out of 2009 and had it not been for payment protection I would have drowned. Say what you will about them, they have been GREAT to me and my credit score. They paid promtly, left me alone other than the occasional "are you working yet" form letter. I didn't even know I had it until a Cap One Collector called me to advise at which time they (Payment Protection) not only paid the minimum but also the arrears and fees the month past and brought my account current. This service was a savior to me when I needed it most and I would recommend (especially in the day and age) everyone get it when opening any unsecured LOC. Don - Columbia, MD.

God Bless Capital One!!!
Beware of their business practices! They sent us to collections for an account less than 10 days past due and an oversight. As soon as I realized it I corrected it and two days later I received a letter demanding full payment. Well you know what they can do with their card and our other accounts that all are in good standing, well they lost another customer. Instead of working with their customers, they alienate them. Would love to know how much bailout money they took from the government and the people of the United States and of course they raised our interest rate to almost 30%.

Capital One Payroll- The Worst Payroll Company
Consistantly the systems are down. No one ever answers their help lines you have to leave messages. It has happened to us on two payroll days in the last month alone! It took them Friday Saturday Sunday and finally Monday we received a call! They don't work weekends or days after holidays or apparently the hours stated on their websites. Thanks to them our employees won't be able to Christmas shop today. No paychecks. No one available to help or answer questions either. It is not an inexpensive service - we will be looking for a different payroll company this week.

Captal One allows fraud, tries to come after you
I never had a Capital One credit card. When I found out about it, I sent them everything, including a police report. Never heard a word out of them for over 5 years, and then boom, I'm served with court papers. They can allow someone to use your name, and expect you to pay for it. There's something terribly with this, they are CROOKS. I've supplied them with everything i have that proves i'm not this person, they just keep it up. The other company that this person did this with, was very understanding, and aleast tried to work with us, and in the end found they were wrong, and at fault.

Capital One is horrible.
I got a letter from Citibank about going up on my interest and they were closing my MC account after it is paid out (I have perfect credit with them). I decided to get a Capital One card and close the MC account. I decided to transfer my MC balance to Capital One at a lower interest rate. After making that mistake and realizing after reading how horrible Capital One is to do business with, I decided I would not activate the card when I got it. Get this: They transferred the balance from my MC account BEFORE I even got the card or activated it PLUS they transferred a larger amount than was even owed on the MC account. I am one angry gal.

They put there annual fee and went over my limint and charged me $39.00 a month for over limit fees
They charged me a $39.00 over limit fee every month because they put there annual fees and I went over the limit I pay every month the amount they said and I am charged a over limit fee of $39.00 which is more then my monthly payment. I think they are tring to rake in as much money as they can from us.Know I am over the limit by $200.00 because of this and I can't get caught up. I think because they put the annual fees on this orignaly I should not pay the over limit fees every month my account was not over the limit.

Capital One raised interest twice now in 2 mos.
So you talked to a customer service person and was told it was something in your credit report. Not true! The upper management of these banks are scaling down what they determime as risk accounts. Risk accounts are classified by non interest earning, high limits paying the minimums and non preforming accounts ( by thier standards). Calling the banks does no good. Mail a letter (not email) to Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman of the Banking Committee. Tell him you are sending money to his primary opponent next spring and asking your friends to also. Letters get attention! Mail to U S Capital Bldg.

Capitol One Rip-Off
I Agree ! Capitol One is ripping us off and the Government needs to do something now!@!!!! They jacked up my credit card rate from 7.9% to 17.9%. I'm sure they're doing this becuase of the state of the economy and the fact that the average person isn't spending money. That doesn't make it right and something needs to be done NOW! It;s B.S. that they think it's OK. If anyone else is being Screwed by this bank, PLEASE post it. The only way we're going to change things is if people grow the b---s and speak up. SCrew the banks! Am being penalized for family members credit card on my credit report
Capital One put a family members info on my credit report. They listed me as an authorized user without my permission. Originally my son had asked if it would be okay for his mom to take and relay info regarding his account while he was at work. They then put me down as a user thus when payments were late it went on my credit report and I had my score drop 57 pts. I never signed anything either. It's too easy for these companies to ruin your life, where are my rights in this? This will take months to straighten out I'm sure.

Capital One calls and calls but then won't speak to you
My son is in the Army and is deployed to Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division. He has a Capital One credit card which he foolishly put his new wife on as a user. His wife is just spending the money and running up the bills and she even got her phone cut off. Capital One's call center in India calls here every day just after 8 AM and ask for him. I have repeatedly told them that he is deployed in Afghanistan and only has intermittent contact with us. Once, one of the Indians gave me a fax number to send a copy of his orders to and a number to call the unit that takes care of service members who are deployed, which my wife did that night. After she faxed the papers, she called the number, but the person on the other end refused to speak to her because she didn't have power of attorney for him. That was 2 weeks ago. They still call every morning. This morning I told the man that called that he was closer to my son than I was, why didn't he go to Afghanistan and collect the money himself. He asked for my son's Afghanistan phone number!

Capital One trial subscriptions
Several years ago I signed up for a Capital One credit card. They actually sent me two...one with several trial subscriptions with it. When it came time to cancel all the trials (I should have done it right away!) I was in the hospital. I had a low credit limit, and the subscriptions that were charged to my account put me over that limit. So I was left with a maxed out credit card and over the limit fees. I called and wrote letters and they refused to reverse the charges. When I finally was able to pay the card off, I sent the check directly to their CEO with a nasty letter.

Capital One- The Preditory Lender
I have been customer of Capital One for years. I always paid my bills on time and always in excess of the minimum payments. Originally I got sucked in by one of those 0% teaser rates. I knew my rate would go up a few points at some time in the future however; I had no clue that this company would later, suddenly significantly increase my rate by 7 percent in a month. Over the years and months Capital One kept raising my rates a little bit at a time. Last month it had reached a peak rate of around 10 plus percent. On my last bill, this company raised my rate 7 percent to 17.9%. I must've talked to 6 or 7 customer service agents in 3 different countries (India, Canada and US). None of these customer service agents could tell me specifically "why" my rate was significantly increased. All of their standard, programmed answers were "because of the economic crisis". Not only could they not tell my why my specific rate was increased so dramatically, they added that some customers had their rates increased to over 30% (like that was going to make me feel better!). I was "floored". I immediately got online and paid off my $4.3k balance and cut up my card. I'll NEVER do business with Capital One again and will never recommend this company to anybody. These are obvioiusly preditory business practices and the customer service personnel were "clueless".
