Worst Customer Service of Any Bank

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They place a hold on any deposit over $5K for 7 business days. Even though the deposited check has cleared and funds are in the bank, they still hold the money...….they earn interest on your money before releasing it. I just called their 800 number and spoke with a smart *** girl who told me to pound sand....it's their policy and tough...……..so a $90K check I deposited is being held for a total of 10 days. Bank is a rip off and their television ads are disgusting. I'm taking my business elsewhere

Most banks hold checks of high amount to watch for fraud. They literally tell you when you set up the account how long they’ll hold something for.... it’s what you click agreed to....

Terrible phone experience - no resolution after 49 minute call

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Oct 16, 2019

UPDATE: the very next day, the information had suddenly reappeared and the issue has been resolved (with no explanation, which is not surprising). I'm still not ok with the runaround I got and, once my accounts are paid off, I will most likely close the accounts because of my experience. Bad customer service is just not acceptable to me.

Original review Sep 16, 2019
One of my 2 cards was restricted for nearly 2 years (job loss led to late payments, both accounts were restricted while I caught up but they never lifted the restriction on the 2nd card... I now have a really solid payment history on all my accounts, card or otherwise). The entire past 2 years I made on-time payments, always more than the minimum due. I was always able to see and pay on the restricted account online... until this morning when I logged in to make both my normal monthly payments. Just a few days ago I went on and looked at both accounts, but today I'm only able to see the unrestricted account. I called in and made the payment on the restricted one with no issues, but then I got the run around for nearly an hour when I asked why I could no longer view the restricted account. Answers ranged from "it's restricted but 3 regular on-time payments will resolve that" (in addition to the almost 24 I've already made??) to "it's closed" to "it's been charged off". I have had no correspondence from them regarding any changes to this account (yes, they have all my current contact info), and I am seriously angry and frustrated at the lack of answers they had for me. I don't actually care about regaining spending access to that account (I haven't had it for nearly 2 years anyway). I JUST WANT TO MONITOR THE BALANCE AND BE ABLE TO MAKE ONLINE PAYMENTS ONCE A MONTH LIKE I ALWAYS HAVE. I don't even mind having to call that one payment in every month, but shouldn't I be able to at least view a balance I have online or by mail, and shouldn't they have notified me if they were going to revoke my access? I have e-statements and now I can't even see them for that account. I work for an attorney and I'm going to see what I can do about this today.

Arbitrary Account Migration and POD Change

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Capital One arbitrarily migrated my account from a Classic account to a 360 account. Have been a Capital One customer since Capital One acquired my old bank, Chevy Chase. Went into Bowie, MD bank branch to make my account payable on death to my Trust. Capital One will not allow POD Trusts. I now have to have my direct deposit sent to another bank and migrate my online bill payments as well. Major hassle and inconvenience.

Online Account Nightmare

Setting up my app & online account required entering an access code they would text, but their system would not recognize my phone #. Multiple calls to customer service and online tech support took a lot of time and several days delay due to their procedures. I was told I could register a complaint on their website, but after some time couldn't find where & even entering words like "complaint" or "customer feedback" nothing comes up. I've NEVER had so much trouble with a financial institution & even branches of the fed government like Social Security & Medicare text security codes to my phone# easily. Totally ridiculous.

I try to deposit cash through capital one ATM and basically ate my money and just returned card. No receipt was printed and the machine went into an error mood. Talk about inconvenience. No called the bank and the representative said it will take about 30 to 60 day to investigate. Really? Please avoid using Capital One ATM bank for cash deposits.

Capital one does not support the consumer and always sides with the business owner when their is a dispute. I was charged a second night at a hotel when I was in another state. I had proof I was not in town and Capital One still sided with the hotel company.

Credit card application denied.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I applied for a Cap I credit card and was told that I had applied too many times/ or had too many credit cards. I have never been blackballed from getting a credit card until about a month ago. I have gotten the same comment or letter from about 6 major banking institutions. They have put me on a list of...do not accept my/wife applications for a new credit card. For over 25 years, I have never owed anyone for anything except my monthly expenses on a credit card. These have always been paid in full. I have multiple homes, all paid for in cash. My credit rating is around 800. My credit history for credit cards is impeccable, never owing any bank for anything beyond a monthly payment that is paid in full each month. The big three agencies are currently trying to help me with my complaint, but the major banks have me on a list which I believe is known as 5/24 or 24/5. I had 3 accounts with cap 1 and am transferring those monies to other institutions. I have found the customer service to be uninformative and generally not willing to reconsider my request. To have their system deny someone because of "too many credit card requests" is based on nothing that actually has to do with a risk, considering my history. Personally, I think the bank is failing financially, and has turned their system into a coffee house fiasco. I will continue to pass on this information to whatever sources are available on the net. They have lost me as a customer, but I have already had hundreds of responses from people who read my comments. Pennywise and dollar foolish. Run from Cap 1 as fast as you can.

LOL...No one cares about you passing anything around. You were denied for credit cards by 6 banks according to your banal and lame complaint.

Rather than whining and talking about getting the word out, you best pull your credit and clean up any mistakes that lead these banks to think you're a bad risk. Anyone trying to apply for a bunch of cards from 6 different banks IS A RISK that no one wants to take. As to the reps, they know what's going on with you but don't have the time to fool with people who think they can talk enough to override the system or worse yet, get the manager who will put their job at risk for you. To them, you're a time waster Just to be clear, you're just a voice on the phone that the computer said don't fool with.

They have no remorse because it's not on them to make the decision.

If you're so financially sound, pay cash and move on with life. I'll bet the next thing you say is "you must work for them."

Capital One Credit Cards like subprime mortgagles

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Aug 19, 2019

In my opinion, Capital One Credit Cards is the equivalent of a sub-prime mortgage. No one gets rejected, they boast. That means people who pay on time are paying for those who do not pay at all.

Even worse, in my opinion, I question if a client pays the charges immediately NOT ALLOWING INTEREST TO BE ASSESSED then Capital One finds another way to make money since the annual fee is not enough to satisfy their greed. One way that is possible, in my opinion, is that Capital One might allow a fraudulent charge to be re-billed to an account and then take a KICK-BACK.

DO NOT DEAL WITH CAPITAL ONE. IT IS, IN MY OPINION, BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH CAPITAL ONE, IT IS A SINISTER CORRUPT ENTITY AND PROBABLY HOOKED UP WITH A SIMILAR "GROUP" WHICH COULD BE ANY COMPANY WITH THE WORDS IN THEIR NAME THAT INCLUDES "CAPITAL GROUP".

Updated by user Aug 19, 2019

Yes, Capital One ignores the logic of my comments and refuses to do an honest investigation. They must be on a feedback loop with the ctriminl merchant about whom I complained

Updated by user Aug 18, 2019

After allowing the fraudulent charges to be removed from my credit card Capital One re-billed without giving me any notice or opportunity to prevent the charges. Once that happens they never reverse themselves because they have you in the trap they initially set up for you.

They advertise "we have your back". Indeed they do. They stab you in the back. After 6 months of disputing the charges they finally just kept referring me to another one of their ombudsmans.

Even though Capital One is an online only company they do not allow you submit things by email or online. Everything has to be done by land mail and printed hard copy. Very contradictory for an online only company. But that's why they make such a huge killing in their profits.

Very low overhead, revolving door low paid staff and then they never even answer your phone calls. Fraud is the name of their game and unethical huge profit is the goal.

Original review Aug 18, 2019
Capital One boasts it never rejects any applicant. That was the same bait used by subprime mortgages that resulted in the disastrous housing bubble that destroyed so many lives. Capital One is a horrible, hideous scam that lures people into credit bubbles they cannot escape from and then they are hounded for payment. The biggest scam that Capital One engages in is to allow fraudulent charges by merchants with whom they have an arrangement. Capital One is an online only "company" which is absurd. But that explains why it's hard to confirm if they belong to Pamoja Capital Group which is itself a criminal group of entities who help each other steal from trusting clients. Fraud by merchants is removed from your card until the merchant fabricates fake documents and then Capital One will re-bill your card even after you've cancelled the card with zero balance. Then to avoid hassles you end up paying whatever their gangster buddies tell them they want and claim the documents they make up are real. Capital One operates out of the U.S. but Canadians also get stuck with the online scam operation. Likely Capital One operates in other countries too. Do not trust Capital One even if it uses the MasterCard brand. Capital One is NOT PART OF THE LEGITIMATE MASTERCARD OPERATION. They waste your time even more by telling you to appeal fraudulent charges to the Executive Response Committtee, then they tell you to complain to an Ombudsman who within 24 hrs rubber stamps the charges as legitimate and then they tell you to complain to another level of Ombudsman. DO NOT TRUST CAPITAL ONE TO BE HONORABLE, TRUSTWORTHY OR SAFE WITH YOUR MONEY AND YOUR REPUTATION. I lost $2-thousand dollars with these *** bags that I paid just so I could close out the account at zero balance. I always kept my monthly balance at zero to make sure I never paid them any interest even though I was at 14.9% while the standard is 19.9%. On reflection, I realized their game was to tantalize a customer into overspending and then being stuck with unpaid bills. DO NOT FALL INTO THE SAME TRAP AS THOSE WHO LOST EVERYTHING IN THE SUB-PRIME HOUSING BUBBLE. Capital One uses the same *** tactics.

'Closed' GM Card (Capital One since 2012) for 'fraud' with no explanation

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Credit Card was 'declined' in September 12th 2019 - no calls from them so called myself. Asked several times for SS#; faxed them my SS copy, DL copy, Real Estate bill copy and a utility bill. After 3 weeks called again and was told it was a 'Fraud Application' - from 24 years ago??? Cap One bought GM Card in 2012 - 7 years ago... Refused to explain why, skirted around the fact that Cap One had data breaches in March and again July of this year - HORRIBLE handling of this. I would not recommend Cap One to anyone.

Worst customer service and cannot handle fraud incident effectively

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had a fraud transactions in my account that I had reported and was reversed in the next statement. After their investigation apparently I was responsible to all the charges and charged me back. I spoke with Capital One and would not listen to my explanation and directly telling me I was not in good faith. They were not so helpful and assumed that I'm lying for an immaterial amount of transactions. The company is not professional and do not know how to analyze a customer spending and could not detect a fraud and would ultimately blame it on you. It is not my loss, it's their loss as I'm done with this card company.

No access to my CCOUNT

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I am abroad and wish to access my account online but access is denied because I exceeded the number of attempts with my password. Unfortunately, in order to obtain a new password I must provide a code Capital One will send to my phone. However, my phone is in the United States, my U.S. cell phone does not work in the country where I am, and my home is locked up because I'm abroad and there's no one to answer the phone. I tried to download the Capital One app but there's a message that says it is not available in my country. I have talked to many people at Capital One, and they all tell me that there's nothing to be done. I can't even close the account! I have no idea what is happening with my account--fortunately it's on autopay. Are there incorrect charges? Is there evidence of fraud? I don't know! You'd think that such a large company could have have found a way since this can't be the first time this has happened. I wrote to the president and to several others at Capital One, but there has been no response, not even an acknowledgement of having received the email.
