On 1/12/17 I attempted to obtain a rental vehicle. Enterprise's policy requires a credit card on file. My Capital one balance was high so i decided to pay it down or even off in order to use my credit card to obtain the rental vehicle. I was told if i make a payment on 1/12 and they verify my banking funds the payment would post immediately. I decided to make a $150 payment which is the cost of the credit card hold by Enterprise. Once the payment posted it reflected a $148 credit availability. Since i needed $150 i made an additional $25 payment in order to give me some wiggle room. When i called back to capital one to have them verify my funds and post to my account i was told that 2 separate posting transactions could not be done so they would have to stop the $150 and super impose the $175. After that was done, i was told that only 1 transaction release would be allowed even though they just stopped the $150 and my account showed a pending payment of $175. After numerous attempts to get this resolved i ask to speak with a manager. The manager begins to explain only 1 immediate posting can be done in 24 hours. So of course i inquired if that were the case why did the customer service rep suspend my 1st transaction to apply the second. He stated "information is given on a request basis and if they would tell you all the ins and outs of the workflow it would take up too much time". At this point i was livid. I further explained that this is my 8th call to capitol one and i was even told i should apply for a credit increase which would be applied immediately in order to achieve my goal. I applied for the increase and was told it would take up to 48 hours to get an answer. I was flat out lied to on multiple occasions by all facets of the company. I even asked the manager to listen to the recorded statements so he could here how the multiple customer services reps didn't give me all the information and steered me into applying for more credit. He further explains "Even if erroneous information was given by customer service there is nothing we can do about it." I closed both accounts!

Pros:

  • 24 hour customer service
Cons:
  • Culture of disposable consumers
  • Miss-information given
  • No accountability
Reason of review:
Poor customer service

Preferred solution: I genuinely only wanted to pay my balance to use my credit card as a hold. I did not want to charge the card only use it to rent a car. In my anger i closed my accounts which i do regret. I would like my account re-open.

I hope this gets to Rich Fairbanks! I have been a customer with capital one since 2017.

My interest is 20% and my payments are $478. My mom decided to leave town and I've been forced to pay more bills than normal I've tried countless times to get my payments down! I entered into the "Hardship" program! This doesn't help at all then could get my payments down $20 less!

Well how is that supposed to help me when I said I can't even afford the $478! There needs to be something implemented to really help those in need who have fallen on hard times! If I tell you I can't make my regular payment of 478 what make you think I can make a payment of $450 each day I pray I hit the lotto so I no longer have to deal with this! I have to tell friends to steer away from this company you guys do not help people at all!!!

Oh yeah and with the hardship program if you don't have the money to enter the program they drop you from it!

This is the worst customer service ever! At times I want to say come get the car and I will call me an Uber when I need to get somewhere!

Good luck trying to refinance, they are full of ***. I've been paying the same amount since 2015 even though they said you could refinance within the year.

I've even made extra payments on the car and it still hasn't helped. Never finance *** with this company

What you're saying is you seem to think this place is a charity. No, it's a business!

Not only that, this isn't a customer service matter. It's a BILL COLLECTING matter!

No lender is under ANY obligation to "help" you which means in the deadbeat's vocabulary means skipping payments, paying when you want to and playing the "change the due date" game. No, I don't work for them.

Micki Ikh

Capital One Auto Finance is the worst. They overcharge you and then argue you are behind on payments.

Their interest rates are criminal. We researched Capital One and they are the top Company with lawsuits and they are always under investigation. Class Action Lawsuits only make money for Lawyers, when filing a lawsuit, always file your own with a few people and no more. Individual Lawsuits are the best, never allow anyone to tell you to jump on a class-action, you can sue for the same reason on your own.

STAY AWAY FROM CAPITAL ONE CREDIT CARDS OR ANY CAPITAL ONE PRODUCTS. #CapitalOneMalfeasance

$478 for a car payment ? Ridiculous, and you are to blame for getting in way over your head. Live within your means and you won't have this problem.

Your review makes no sense, so it is Capital One and Carmax's fault that your daughter has to pay a high interest rate? No, that is all on her, no need to play the "blame game".

Also, in no way, shape or form was she "forced" to do anything. Did Capital One threaten her if she did not buy the car? I don't think so, if they did, man, they would be in hot water. That was not the case, though, just make the payments, develop a good payment history and refinance.

With the money she put down, she could have used that to pay for a car in full. Plenty of cars out there.

BLAME GAME IN ACTION

The interest rate is governed by YOUR credit reputation. Who's?

YOURS! Perhaps YOU should have paid YOUR bills on time! Being upside down in the deal is ALSO caused by YOU because the ONLY reason you are upside down is because YOU put too little down and/or strung the loan out too long. Again, all under YOUR control!

The price is what YOU agreed to! Still again, all under YOUR control. If the price was too high, the time to complain about it is BEFORE you agree to pay it! I mean, how elementary is that???

Bottom line to all this is every one of YOUR complaints were totally and completely under YOUR control. If you want to whine, look in the mirror and whine to THAT person...the one who caused all of it and no, I don't work for them!

Capital One Treats you like a Criminal

A family member paid off my credit card and I contacted Capital one after the payment was taken out of their account. I was told I had to wait five days until I'm able to see the funds or use them. I was sent to the FRAUD Department because a family member paid off my bill. I was then told I had to contact the Bank to make sure the funds were transferred and they were cleared. However, Capital one still made me wait five days to be able to see the credit that was available. Why send me to the Fraud Department? It's crazy. They should be the ones being looked at under a Microscope because they charge you 25 percent interest fees and won't lower your rate. Crooks.

Capitol One dropped me

After 12 years of having my GM rewards card, which used to be Chase, but Capital One bought out several years ago, They closed my account with no warning. I had a business card with 5 employees also on my account.

I always paid my account off every month, and was never late on one payment as long as I can remember. I have literally paid them hundreds of thousands of dollars. My average card balance every month was around 18-20 thousand dollars, which was paid off every month in full. 3 weeks ago, I went to use my card for some business items, and it was declined.

I went on-line to my account and found a notice in big red letters, "this account has been closed" After the normal 45+ minutes on the phone, trying to reach the right people, I was transferred to the 'executive branch' where a lady informed me that my account had been closed and could NOT be re-opened. When I required as to why, she replied " after an executive meeting on your account, it was decided to close it as we do not agree with some of the transactions on you card". I couldn't believe what I was hearing, so I had her repeat it 3 times. She stated that I would be receiving a letter in the mail in 5-7 business days that would explain the reason.

After 8 business days, I received the letter which states as a reason" We have observed activity on your account that is not consistent with our expectations of usage for commercial or small business purposes". I then reviewed the statements of all of my accounts for the last 3 months, and did not find anything that was charged, that was not ordinary business dealings or that hadn't been charged for years in the past. I received no notice that I was having my account closed by e-mail, text, or phone call, just found out when I tried to use my card. Also, when I received the letter, The account number on the letter was not one of my accounts.

When I tried to find out why, after 3 more calls, I was told that it was probably a clerical error by whomever typed the letter, but they would look into it and I would receive a call back in 24-48 hrs. That has been 7 days ago, and I still haven't received a call back from them, even though I've checked on it 2 more times. This had really crimped my business, as I have had to try and get another credit card for my employees to use, and try to remember everywhere I have re-occurring monthly charges.

I am very disappointed in the way I have been treated, and not to mention, I have lost over $5,700.00 in credit towards the purchase of a new vehicle from GM, which is one of the reasons I even used the card. Good luck to anyone else who has Capital One as a card

Crossing Privacy Boundaries Before Account Was Activated

I applied online two weeks ago for the Capital One card and was approved. Got my card in the mail two days ago and tried to activate it yesterday. I was immediately sent to the "fraud detection department" who said I couldn't activate it online due to potential fraudulent activity. After verifying my identity, they activated my card. Later in the evening I was notified by my EX husband (been divorced over two years and never had credit accounts or bank accounts together during marriage) that Capital One called his house to verify my identity and application for credit. He sent me the call back number and case info they left on his answering machine and I called the number. It was the same fraud department that activated my account earlier that day. When I asked why they tried to contact my ex husband, they said that it was normal practice for them to search public records to verify someone's identity. Searching public records is one thing, but leaving a message on a phone number that was attached to someone else's name regarding someone else's application for credit is wrong. They gave my abusive ex-husband information that he shouldn't know and has no right to know. The girl handling my call in the "fraud department" apologized for the mistake and offered to put a note in my file about it and remove his number. But instead, I asked her to go ahead and close the account, which she did.

I would have done the same thing. That is outragious.

That fraud department, sounds like they are, helping, create fraud, instead of trying to prevent it. And if you open an account, why is that, anyone's , business?

Well, atleast you did the right thing, and cancelled, with a zero balance. Hope you,get lucky, and , get a , better card.

They took my car in the middle of the night last night. Actually about 3am. They came in like thieves in the night and hooked it up and hauled it off. No notice that they were taking it . No certified letter, no warning, just took it ! All of my husbands work tools, boots, rain coat, life jacket, was all in the car. He needs this all for 5am in the morning for work since he works on the river. Well I guess he don't need it since he doesn't have a ride to get there ! But you know what today is, right ? New Years Eve ! They won't answer the phone on New Year's Eve but they can surly send someone to your house on a holiday to take your stuff ! I'm pissed !

They took the car because a payment was missed, likely more than one. Not their fault for your irresponsibility.

Sorry about your loss. Capital One is always under investigation for fraud, Malfeasance and excessive billing charges targeting the most vulnerable consumers in our society.

Capital One deliberately and intentionally abuses the weak and reaps the benefits of the Laws they lobby to manipulate. You are entitled to your personal property, so write to them and get your personal belongings back.

Capital One is deceitful and is infested with Malfeasance, yet it is the CEO, who runs the Company. They have a long history of lawsuits and complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, Securities Exchange Commission, the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Protection Financial Bureau, etc. Inundate them with complaints so they are Red- flagged again for their ongoing criminal activity destroying the lives of innocent consumers.

Capital One does not care about your Quality of Life or Prosperity sanctioned by U.S.

Congress. Time for Term Limits to regain control of our Laws to protect our families

"No notice that they were taking it . No certified letter, no warning, just took it"

See, here's the thing.

No company is repossessing your car unless they have a darn good reason to. In most circumstances, it's due to you not paying your bill. The bill caused by the loan you willingly signed. You agreed to the terms and services of the loan.

Long story short, you knew it was coming because you were not paying your bill. That's what happens in life.

I understand that. But a little knock on the door to get my personal belongings out of the car, or maybe even a threatening certified letter would have gotten me off my *** to pay the bill.

Everything My husband needed for work was in that car. Yes, I believe at least a knock on the door would have been more professional on their part to allow us to get our things.

Instead they come and hook it up at 3am on New Years morning and rushed out of here like sneaky little thieves . Unprofessional !

Ha ha ha! "Thieves", right?

Just like when people don't pay their payments when required! Looks like you need to look for some other reason to try to defame them. All this happened because YOU didn't pay your bills on time.

It was YOU who brought on these consequences and no one else! Grow up and pay your bills on time and no, I don't work for them.

Capital One just did the same thing to me. I had four Capital One credit cards and they just closed all four accounts without any notification for no apparent reason. Two of the cards haven't been used for over a year, the third I paid in full every month, and the fourth I paid at least 10 times the minimum payment every month (the only reason I didn't pay in full every month was because it had 0% interest). When I called they gave the same lame explanation that the activity on the account was not consistent with their expectations or something like that. I'm still trying to figure out what the *** that means!

It is unfortunate, but they have every right to do so at any given time. If they feel you are at higher risk to stop paying, or maybe you just haven't used your card in quite some time, they will close the account. And there is nothing stopping them.

Capital one auto finance

Purchase a car in 2012 have been paying on it until my accident . I had purchased gap insurance for coverage of the car.

Now that gap has paid it capital one said that I still owed them money.

I have been paying 358 for 4 Years on a 13,115 with interest dollar car and it only went down to 10,000 and car at time of purchase was 10,000 you do the math oh less not forget they gave me a 29% high interest rate and I had ok credit score . Now my friend went in several weeks later with a credit score much lower than mine and got and interest rate at 4.2% and got a brand spankin new car and they gave me a used and wouldn't let me get a new one because of my score and yes I had to get it from them because capital one choose that dealership and the dealership had the Odassidy to try and sell me a old pickup truck about 20 years old for 13,000 for the amount of that they gave me at the time so I guess the salesmen didn't feel I should be able to get a new car but that's a hold other story .Now Capital one auto said I still owe them another 4000 to competly paid off the loan are you kidding me that's why I bought the the gap insurance so in case some thing happen the vehicle would be paid off in full.

Once your money is in - YOU CANT TAKE IT OUT!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Jan 01, 2017

Denying access to senior citizen funds by voice, email, fax, web-chat, and snail mail effectively denies all access to personal property. It is elder abuse and no doubt class actionable as Capital One systematically denies consumers access to their money in this way.

They habitually claim to "not be able to read" faxed documents and "can not locate" mailed documents. The rate at which they do this is unparalleled in the industry and likely constitutes fraud or grand larceny.

Original review Dec 31, 2016
My husband and I have had a retirement account with CapitalOne Investing for many years. Now, as retired seniors who belong to AARP, we need our money money moved out. They won't accept our request to move funds out of their hands. We call, "no over the phone withdrawls/transfers". We fax the form request, they say "we can't read it". We fax a new form and again Capital One Investing says "we can't read it." We have a brokerage firm mail the transfer request. "Capital One does not have the document." Oh, my god! They have stolen our money and won't release it after all these years. So, if you can't call, fax, email, or snail mail to get your money out of Capital One Investing - it is not your money - it is theirs.
