Capital One Did Not Protect Me From A Retail Fraud Charge

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I purchased online an item from an online retailer/merchant for the first time. The product came broken.

I tried to return it with the merchant directly, which was unsuccessful after 4 tries. At that time, I talked to Capital One and the charge was disputed. Capital One requested additional information, which was a lot. All the burden is on you the customer.

The retailer has your money, the credit card company Capital One made money on you. You are stuck with a broken item. Capital One sided with the merchant even after I discussed the case with a dispute manager. He told me if I get this and that, it should be no problem.

The merchant even had in their policy that the customer is always right. I ended up without my money and without the product. I was stolen from. Plain and simple!

I have now moved my entire balance from Capital One to another credit card and am in the process of canceling my card after over 15 years of being a customer.

In the entire time, this was only my second dispute. Capital One treated my horrible as a customer and do not deserve my business anymore.

Awful customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I noticed 2 charges on my credit card statement that I didn't recognize, so I called customer service. After a really long wait time and being transferred 3 times I finally got to talk to a human. The service rep. seemed concerned, said they would send a new card, and acted like it was a done deal. Several days later I get 3 letters from Capital one, all written on the same day. One says, " You have disputed a charge," Two says, " We think you, or another account holder made these charges," and three says " We hope you are happy with the resolution of your dispute". What?? I am the only account holder, so it looks like they just called me a liar. These people really suck! Do not get this card! They will not back you up! Don't get this card!

APPARENTLY, THAT IS BEYOND ANYONE'S PAY GRADE OR COMPREHENSION IN YOUR CR DEPT. AND I CANCELLED THE DAMN THING. I DON'T SUFFER FOOLS! Credit card 'snafu'

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

A couple of months ago my Capital One credit wasn't accepted at 4 different sites. I got a message that the 'chip was not recognized'.

I called Customer Service and told them the card was not accepted. They told me that their records show there were no transactions. I said if the chip wasn't recognized how would you have a record. Without more talking I was told that a replacement card would be sent out.

I received the new card in about a week. The card worked for 3 transactions and then wasn't accepted. I called again and got the same run-around, the card was good it was the vendor's fault. Again, I asked how could you show a transaction if the chip wasn't recognized.

I finally hung up and went through the automated request for a replacement card.

That card didn't work from day 1.

So, I went to Bank of America and was issued a card that works. Now, I didn't cancel my Capital One card because several bills have my card on file, those are still being paid without a problem.

I don't expect any resolution to the problem I had, it's taken care of with the Capital One card only used for purchases that have my card on file.

Thanks for listening, maybe tell your phone reps to do the same

Auto Loan Lien Release Letter Needed

Has been virtually impossible to get anyone on the phone & then anyone who seems to actually care about helping. I need a lien release letter for a loan that was paid off over 14 years ago. All I ever received was basically a billing screen printout. This is not sufficient for Michigan's Secretary of State to transfer the title.

BEWARE!: Constant Credit Checks without Your Permission

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have recently discovered that this piece of *** company has been making credit ("HARD pulls"!) on me for SEVERAL years, and I NEVER gave them permission to; NEVER asked for a loan or credit card or anything. I found out through the 3 credit reporting agencies, that this company has kept my original credit score of 751 at anywhere between 230 and 615 because my retarded piece of *** "spouse" has been trying to get a credit card through them, and (he's an irresponsible, violent drunk who can't drive because he's a drunk) he has been using where I live and MY social security number and they have been doing credit checks on me just based on his lies and trying to get credit he should not have.

I am hopefully warning people before they get married to check this out. And if you are divorced, you owe it to yourself and your future to make sure this does not happen to you.

Capital One has NEVER received a request from ME to get a credit card, and they WILL pull your credit for years, unless you stop them. I hope this will make someone think before they put themselves out and try and get a credit card.

Unhelpful Customer Service

Original review May 16, 2021
I wanted information about how someone's credit report would be impacted if they became an authorized user on my account. I spoke with two people who didn't know and wouldn't try to find someone to help me. They said ask the credit bureaus. As a credit card company who reports to credit agencies and offers the option to add an authorized user, I expected them to provide that information.

I have been a long time customer (not for much longer) of Capital One Bank, but because they do not provide a contact email address or any other way to send them a message thru their online banking system, I am fixing to dump them and go to Discover On Line Bank. There is no reason that a Bank, or any other business should not have a way to contact them via email or on line messaging in the year 2021.

My credit is outstanding and capital one refuses to stop charging me a account fee

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user May 04, 2021

It hasn't it's still the same they refuse to update my account and stop making me pay the account yearly fee of 39.. and only give me a lousy 750. Credit line when I have other cards worth 2000.-9000- dollars and all my accounts are in very good standing I pay my bills...

Original review May 04, 2021
Years ago my wife and I had gone bankrupt back in 2006 when the stock market went belly up I had opened an account with orchard bank a secure account you put 300$ in and that's all you could spend.
A year later capital one bought out orchard bank and sent all the card holders and email saying that once our accounts were in the capital one system they would discontinue the account fee and make the accounts unsurcured well they did my wife's account and increased her credit limit.
Now we both had the same type of account but capital one didn't change my account they made me continue paying the fee I have fought them about this for several years now and they still won't change anything.
I'm worth 30 thousand dollars in credit but capital one still won't change anything but if I close my account it will lower my credit score and they refuse to increase my limit this is outrageous for capital one to get away with this they should have by now update my account from surcured to unsurcured but no they just don't give a blank I'm still paying the yearly fee and they keep telling me that they won't change anything they told me well just close the account and open a new account but because this account is my oldest account if I close it it will severely mess up my credit score and the time I've had credit so I'm stuck paying them for an account that they won't give me an increase in my line or remove the fee I have card's with credit line of 9000.00 dollars and others up in the thousands my credit score is well above 800 they just want the money they don't care about the customers at all. won't change anything one still won't won't change

“ credit line of 9000.00” LOL. Do they need to paint you a picture?

You’re a poor credit risk whose score is probably based on your credit utilization(30% of your score).

They know you’re one sad excuse away from leaving them holding a the bag. This isn’t their first rodeo with people like you.

And with "the highest score you can get" they said NO. Only a Bozo would sit around and whine about a business transaction and take it personally. If this is all you have, I understand and apologize.

New Card Fails

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Received a replacement Capital One Walmart Credit card and after activating it the Walmart App will not accept the security code Walmart says to delete and readd the card, which I did. This deletes the card from the App as well. Now the App wants the security code from back of the card and then fails to accept the number from the card. Capital One says it is a Walmart issue but when calling the Walmart support number and selecting Walmart Card as the problem it sends you back to Capital One.
