I am not a Cap One customer nor have ever been and recently found out that a credit card with a 10k limit had been opened under my ownership. I only found out through Credit Karma.

It's been open for about 2 months and has not been used. I filed a dispute immediately and eventually called Cap One customer service to dispute this directly. Over a 30 minute phone conversation they assured me the fraudulent account had been closed. But they did make sure to give me a number of options to find out more about how this could happen - including referring me to their identity protection.

Something about this seems fishy.. how did an account get opened, why hasn't it been used in 2 months, and why are they pushing their identity protection?
