Capital One - deceptive holds

Daughter opened account at Capital One because there is a branch at her college. She deposited checks totaling $600 in her account when when the account had been open for 27 days. She received a letter in the mail saying the bank was putting a hold on the checks and the money would be unavailable for 8 business days because the account was open for less than 30 days. Called to complain and was told the checks needed to be "verified". When I questioned what this was I was told it was to insure that the people who had written the checks had the money to cover them. All of this is done electronically and why would it take longer if an account was open 27 days versus 31 days? Capital One is simply not giving people access to their own money and claiming checks are being verified. I thought of opening an account there but now I will not nor will I ever apply for their credit card. As far as I'm concerned this bank is acting unethically.

Opened an account and deposited a check from my personal checking account with another bank.

The funds have left my other bank account yet of course Capital One have this "verification process". Why does Capital One have this when every other bank that I have ever dealt with does not?

They have over $1000 of my money that they will not let me access. Have to ask is Capital One Solvent? Seems they are using this money for something....

Capital One in Newark, New Jersey - Capitol One = *** Bags

Capitol One is equivalent to the last *** I took. I hate these bastards and one day they will get theirs. If you owe Capitol One money and cannot pay, they will continue to haunt and haunt you. Capitol one is infamous for sending credit card holders that are in default, pre-approved credit card offers. Don't be fooled by these practices. If you choose to accept their offers, don't be surprised when they post a payment from the new account to the old defaulted account to extend the Statue of limitations. It would give me great pleasure to see Capitol One collapse. Watch Capitol One, they are very stealthy and dishonest.
