Capital One - Car lien held hostage

I paid my car loan off early in 2014,I give it no thought until today when I was attempting to trade in my car and realize I don't have the title. I contact the state and the inform me that Capital one still has a lien on my car. 5 years later. I contact Capital one and they are unable to provide verification that I paid off the car except through mail which takes them 2 to 3 weeks according to the rep. It is shame that they cant even provide a secure document through email in the 21st century. Or better yet upon full payment of a loan instantly release the damned lien. So now I'm stuck without a car because of antiquated technology and poor business practice.

A good idea when you pay off a car loan is to remember to make sure you receive an updated title showing no lien. You didn't do this and now you have to wait.

Gotta remember that, when dealing with a large company, things take time, unlike when dealing with a local credit union, etc. This is how we learn.

Of course, your bank is going to say it wasn't them just as C1 would say the same thing. This is a great post on how not to handle your finances.

Had you kept an eye on your account, you would have noticed the money was still there and figured out why. You had a minimum of 30 days to have seen this and took care of it. #YourFault Now, what is it about you people calling and thinking the agent or the magic manager is going to override a computer and lose their jobs. Compose a well-written letter, explain the circumstances and as for a courtesy reversal.

OR Dispute this with the credit agencies. If you're lucky, they won't respond and you'll be clear.

Be a human being. You have no gain causing someone's credit harm other than being a jerk. It is 2019, if you have alerts set up they should function properly. Because of your company I will be required to pay a higher interest rate on my student loans.

UPDATE: the very next day, the information had suddenly reappeared and the issue has been resolved (with no explanation, which is not surprising). I'm still not ok with the runaround I got and, once my accounts are paid off, I will most likely close the accounts...

Cap One does not answer the phone for U.S. customers. All calls are automatically routed to a call center in Guatemala where you speak to someone with a thick accent who does not understand your questions. I called their main office phone number hoping to get a U.S. person in their Salt Lake City, Utah branch 877-383-4801 but still got the automated links to be routed to Guatemala. I will never again get an account with Capital One.

I could not access my accounts on line. I was told there was a problem with my credit card, in that the name on the card was not the same as the name on the account. We applied and got a new card. Still could not access my account. Was told there was a problem with the IT department and issue would be solved. Still could not access my account. Today, told again that issue will be solved - only it is now about a month with no account access.

Got new credit card, set up user name and password for online access, but every time I log in, I get a message "Let's work this out" with no access to a help desk or other support line. Called customer support, and gave up after being on hold for 25 minutes.
