Verified ReviewerResolved: Dispute
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. I was given temporary credit while they finally decided to investigate my claim
I followed all of their requests, yet they chose to treat me with complete disregard! The customer service representative that opened my claim was rude and distracted. That set the tone for how my case has been handled since that date of 10/13/23. I have accounts with Chase Bank as well.
I never experienced anything close to this utter disregard for customer care, security, rights and protection. I can understand why they have so many lawsuits against them.
- Dont follow government regulations
- Bad customer service
- You cant escalate your claim to higher authority
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified ReviewerPoor customer service. They have no concern for protecting their customers money!
Capital One violated Regulation E that protects consumers from electronic errors. Everyone should take notice of this.
I now understand why this bank has been sued in class action lawsuits.
They don't protect their customers! I think their customer service is a sourced...
I called PayPal customer service, they asked me if I keyed in my email when I deposited the funds? I said no, I was logged into my account, I just typed in my name and pressed send! The agent informed me that it was likely the funds went into another account holder's account. She would have to search for it.
She also said I needed to call my bank, so they could possibly stop the payment or be on the alert. Two seconds later, she found the account the money was deposited into. The account holder's name was indeed the same as mine but a different email. The PayPal agent stated she could take the funds back because it was a person to person transaction.
However, my bank would definitely be able to help me by doing a chargeback. I called Capital One, I spoke with a very nice customer service for representative. She said no action could be taken at that time because the transaction had not posted. She said she would note the call and I should call back in a couple of days to see if the transaction actually does post to my account.
Furthermore she said, then it won't be any problem getting this taken care of so don't worry! I called back when the transaction posted thinking it would be no problem, that's when the nightmare began! I spoke with a very rude representative who opened my claim. I could hardly understand her because her accent was very profound.
She spoke very abruptly and distracted. In the background it sounded like she was in her home multitasking between her job and her chores. I have no idea what she documented as my statement of the incident. The only that stuck out is her saying it likely takes 5 or 6 months for me to get my money back on a simple $154.65 claim I was dumbfounded!
From 10/13 to this current date I have contacted Capital One bank and PayPal every other day trying to resolve this matter! I'm mentally drained and angry that something like a simple mistake can cost you to lose your money. There two entities that have the control and both are saying it's no my problem it's yours! In the meantime I'm the human being that has bills that need paying.
It's my credit report that's being negatively impacted! What about the federal laws that are supposed to protect my rights as the customer! Why am I being trampled over here? I really don't understand how Capital One can get away with this!
I'm totally pissed! They have turned this $154.65 into over $500 with payments and late fees that are due to my creditors.
- Does not listen to customers
- Does not value customers
- Poor customer service - poor current customer website

Verified ReviewerGeneral anger
My credit score was near perfect, and then I forgot to pay my Capital One credit card. I don't even use the card and keep it for emergencies.
Capital One charged me a $39.99 annual fee (up from $20), poorly informs me about my bill, and then reports me for a late payment. 200 hard-earned points are gone.
I have a new slogan for you... "Capital One, no longer in my wallet!" You guys should write some business articles... maybe "how to lose all your customers in 30 days." It would be worthy of the Harvard Business Review.
It would at least make a good case study.
Do you guys understand the lifetime value of a customer? You made $100 in late fees, but it cost you my business for life. Shame on you... Capital One.
You're a soulless corporation that puts profit over people.
You're just a payday loan company wearing a nicer suit. (This rant is directed at the decision makers, and is not directed at the underpaid employee doing his/her job).
Capital One sucks!
From a man that had to learn it the hard way.
- Spend money you dont have
- Credit card companies prey on the weak and desperate

Verified Reviewer*** & Nonsense
So back last november, the day after Thanksgiving, I took out an online loan from one of the websites and had a deposit into my Capital One 360 banking account direct deposit. The loan company put an extra in in my last name which is Hutchison and they spelled it Hutchinson and do you know from that day November 20 whatever it was until now Capital One has refused to release those funds to me and had that account locked because of the extra and in my last name!
So finally now September of the year after 11 months later I receive an email on September 1st letting me know the account had been closed and that a check was being sent to me with a 70-cent interest accumulation for the whole 11 months for $900.70. it is now October the 3rd or 4th I don't even *** know.
I still have not received this check. I moved back 3 months ago from the address where I used to stay and I changed my mail on the app as we're supposed to do you know they have sent two separate checks to the wrong *** address that I no longer live at and I was assured two weeks ago that the third attempt at sending a check would be sent in one to three business days and would have a tracking number and ask me why the *** I never got a tracking number and they sent it the regular 15-day mail whatever the *** it takes that I'm so over this *** company.

Verified Reviewer | Sehore, Madhya PradeshThey decided I cannot name a charity as my beneficiary
This bank used to be good... and then, something bad happened.
Recently, I was led through a merry-go-round of codes and texts and phones and uploading driver licenses three times, just to be told that nothing could be done about it. All I was trying to do is add my husband, who also has an account with them, as the co-owner of our checking account! Idiotic programming or policies won't allow you to set up a joint account to start with, and then they couldn't recognize his phone, because both our cell phones were under my name. They would not allow it to be handled by mail, nor in person in their "café".
It finally resolved today, only for me to run into another brick wall.
Today I was trying to add my church as the beneficiary of my account. I did it a year or so ago with another account with Capital One, but then I switched to a higher interest paying savings account. Turns out that their current programmers or policy-makers (I am not sure which) decided that you could only name an individual, not an organization, as a beneficiary. So unless you can input a birthdate, the program won't allow you to proceed.
Seriously?!
I even wrote an email - a very polite one - to their corporate office.
Nobody ever responded! The nudge was ignored as well.
- Interest rates
- Customer service availability
- Nigthmare programming and policies
- Cannot accomplish simplest tasks
- Customer service ineffective
Preferred solution: I want to be able to name my church as my beneficiary, and not be strong-armed to only name an individual with a birthdate.
User's recommendation: Find a more flexible bank

Verified Reviewer | Braddock, VirginiaThey stole money from my account
I looked at my credit card balance on my account and noticed they did not apply three payments I made to my credit card account and the amount is not reflecting back to my checking account. I made 3 separate payments to my credit card with the largest one of $595.00.
When I called, the automated system said $595 payment was received and posted. Days later, Capital one sent me an bill to my email address and posted on the bank account that I owe $800 plus dollars because payment was returned with the word CONA next to return payment and misspelled words as well.
My payroll check had just gone into my checking account where payment was made to credit card within the same banking system and I had enough to cover the bill. Capital One stop stealing and I want my money back to my account.

Why is it their fault if you had funds deposited in the wrong PayPal account? The bank has no authority to go in and take that money out.
